Stillness and Movement

In our fourth Carport Theater community theater event we took on new challenges by working in a format involving more dance and less dialogue. In a series of short skits combining metaphysical, poetic and comic elements, a dozen characters explored the nature of movement and stillness: What makes motion meaningful? When is stillness paralysis? Can you freeze and save the perfect moment? These questions were examined in one skit where Tarot cards come to life, while in another they took the form of a film noir mystery. In the final ensemble piece we were led to consider them as part of the challenge of breaking through creative block—how to surrender to stillness in order to access authentic movement.
